animesstudios is a creative space for cartoon illustration, character exploration, animation concepts, and imaginative visual storytelling. We bring ideas to life through expressive artwork, thoughtful design, and a playful approach to the creative process.
“Sometimes the smallest detail creates the biggest personality.”
The First Idea
Every project starts with curiosity. A shape, a funny expression, a strange little creature, or a moment from everyday life can become the beginning of a whole new cartoon universe.
Bringing It to Life
Through sketching, refinement, color, composition, and movement, an early idea becomes a visual story. Every decision adds personality and helps the final artwork communicate clearly.
Explore the many ways a simple sketch can grow into a complete visual experience. From early drawings to polished illustrations, every creative stage brings new possibilities.
A hand-drawn cartoon concept with expressive pencil lines.
A vibrant, finished cartoon character portrait.
A detailed imaginary landscape designed for motion.
A sequence of key animation frames capturing action rhythm.
Creativity is not about following a fixed formula. It is about trying new ideas, exploring unusual combinations, and finding a visual language that feels authentic. We believe cartoon art should be expressive, curious, and full of personality.

ABOUT animesstudios
We are an independent creative studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of cartoon art, character exploration, and motion storytelling.
A small team, a large imagination, and a working method built around drawing — not templates. This page is the story of how the studio came together and what we believe about cartoons.
Our Creative Philosophy
We believe cartoons are not merely entertainment for children; they are a universal visual language capable of expressing complex human emotions, surreal worlds, and humorous observations.
Our studio rejects standard template-driven illustration. Every line, exaggerated gesture, and vibrant color palette is custom-crafted to create memorable characters with distinct voices.
The work begins with a pencil, not a screen. Sketches are drawn in sequence, in a notebook, until the character moves — not before. Only when the pose and gesture work on paper do we bring the piece into color and motion.

A Studio Built Around a Sketchbook
animesstudios began in 2017 as a single sketchbook shared between two illustrators. Both had spent years working inside animation studios and advertising agencies where the goal was always the same: produce the most work in the shortest time. Neither was happy with what that produced.
The first project the studio took on was not a commission. It was a self-published zine called "Twelve Odd Characters" — a small collection of twelve character studies, each drawn in isolation over a single weekend. Nothing was client-approved. Nothing was pitched. Nothing was branded. It was simply a chance to draw the way they had originally wanted to.
The zine sold two hundred copies. More importantly, it attracted the kind of work the studio has been producing ever since — commissions from publishers, animation studios, and cultural institutions who wanted characters with personality rather than trend compliance.
Today animesstudios operates as a small, distributed studio of six illustrators and animators. We accept a limited number of commissions each season and devote the rest of our time to personal work — because that is what keeps the commercial work honest.
First zine: twelve character studies, drawn over a single weekend.
How We Actually Work
Every commission — regardless of size — follows the same four-stage process. None of the stages is optional, and none of them is rushed.
Sketching
Rough pencil drawings on paper. We do not skip this stage and we do not move to color until the gesture is right.
Character Line
A clean ink line is drawn over the approved sketch. Every curve is intentional. Nothing is traced from a template.
Coloring
Custom palettes are built for each project. We never reuse a palette from a previous commission, no matter how successful it was.
Motion
Only when the still image works do we animate it. Motion is used to reinforce the character, never to compensate for a weak design.
The Hands Behind the Lines
MIRA OKONKWO
Ten years across animation and editorial illustration. Draws every character line for the studio and leads all sketch reviews.
JONAS LIND
Handles motion for every animated commission. Believes a cartoon should read clearly in silhouette before it moves a single frame.
SOFIA REYES
Builds custom palettes for every project. Has never reused a palette from one commission to another in the studio's history.
What animesstudios Will Never Do
We do not use character templates, pose libraries, or pre-drawn asset kits. Every character is drawn from a blank page.
Every illustration we deliver is drawn by a named member of our team. We do not use generative tools at any stage of the process.
We do not accept projects that require same-week delivery. Good character work takes time, and we would rather decline than compromise.
Every commission is credited to the illustrator who drew it. We do not allow studios or agencies to present our work as their own.
Who We Work With
We work with a small number of clients each year, typically no more than eight. Below is a representative sample of the kinds of partners we collaborate with.
Publishers
Children's book illustrators, comic publishers, and independent zine producers looking for original character art.
Animation Studios
Independent and mid-sized studios needing character design, visual development, or short-form motion work.
Cultural Institutions
Museums, galleries, and film festivals commissioning editorial illustration and animated spot pieces.
Independent Brands
Small brands and studios who want custom cartoon work rather than generic stock illustration.
Cartoons Are a Serious Craft
A cartoon is not a shortcut. It is a discipline. The best cartoons in history — from early hand-drawn features to the sharpest contemporary animation — earned their place because someone took the time to draw them properly. We try to work in that same tradition.
We are not the biggest cartoon studio, and we are not trying to become one. We are a small team doing serious work, with a shelf of commissions and a shelf of personal projects, both of which matter equally to us.
If you have a project you think would benefit from our style, we would be glad to hear about it. If you just want to look at the work, we are glad about that too.

CARTOON ARTWORK GALLERY
Filter through our expansive collection of cartoon artwork & character designs.
Every piece in this gallery was drawn by hand by a member of our studio. No templates, no pose libraries, no generative tools — only pencils, ink, and deliberate color.
The Wanderer — Full Character Study
A fourteen-page character exploration drawn over six weeks. The brief was simple: design a protagonist who could carry an entire animated short without speaking a single line. Every expression, pose, and color note in this study exists to support that one requirement.
The final character has been used in two commissioned shorts and one gallery exhibition. The original sketchbook remains in the studio archive and is not for sale.

How Every Piece in This Gallery Was Made
Pencil First
Every drawing begins on paper. No digital sketch replaces the initial pencil stage — the physical line is what establishes character.
Ink by Hand
The final line is drawn with a physical pen before being scanned. We never use an auto-vector tool to clean up a line.
Custom Color
Each piece has its own palette, built from scratch. No shared color swatches across projects.
Archive
Every original is stored in the studio archive after delivery. Some are available as prints; many remain private.
What You Can See and What You Can Own
Most pieces in this gallery are drawn for client work, personal exploration, or studio archive. They are shown here for viewing and are not available for purchase or licensing.
A limited number of pieces are available as signed, numbered giclée prints in editions of twelve. Availability is listed on individual pieces where applicable.
Some pieces were drawn for clients and are shown here with permission. Licensing for those pieces is handled directly by the original client.
The Gallery Is a Working Record
This gallery is not a portfolio in the marketing sense. It is a working record of what our studio has drawn over the past several years — including the pieces that never found a client, the character studies that were abandoned halfway, and the small experiments that only ever appeared in a sketchbook.
If you are a client, a collaborator, or simply someone who enjoys cartoon art, we hope this gallery gives you a sense of how we work — not just what we deliver.

Four Stages From Brief to Delivery
Brief
A written brief or a short conversation. We ask what the piece is for, who will see it, and what it needs to do — not just what it should look like.
Proposal
A written proposal within five working days outlining scope, deliverables, timeline, and total cost. Nothing begins before the proposal is signed.
Production
Sketching, inking, and coloring — with mid-project reviews at agreed milestones. Clients see the work as it develops, not just at the end.
Delivery
Final files delivered in print and web formats. Physical originals are stored in the studio archive and can be shipped on request.
Transparent From the First Conversation
Every project receives a written quote after the initial brief. The ranges below are starting points, not final prices — the exact cost depends on scope, complexity, and timeline.
One editorial piece, one revision round
Full sheet, expressions, and pose library
Up to 30 panels, including animatic timing
Complete visual development for a short or pilot
What We Do Not Offer
We do not accept same-week or next-day delivery. Character work requires time, and we would rather decline than compromise the drawing.
We do not work from character templates or stock asset libraries. Every commission is drawn from a blank page.
Every deliverable is drawn by a named member of our team. We do not use generative tools at any stage of the process.
Every commission is credited to the illustrator who drew it. We do not allow third parties to present our work as their own.
Drawing Is the Whole Point
Every service on this page exists to support the same thing: serious, hand-drawn cartoon work. The tools have changed since we started in 2017, but the discipline has not. A drawing is still made by a person, over time, on paper, with a pencil.
If your project needs something faster, cheaper, or automated, there are plenty of studios that will accommodate. If you want the work made properly, we would be glad to hear from you.

In realistic portraiture, anatomical fidelity is paramount. But in cartoon illustration, accuracy takes a backseat to expression. Exaggeration is not simply distorting proportions at random—it is about identifying the emotional core of a pose or face and amplifying it until it cannot be ignored.
